HOUSTON – Central Arkansas posted back-to-back five-run innings, then capped its scoring with a six-run sixth for a 17-4 victory over HBU in the Southland Conference baseball series finale Sunday afternoon at Husky Field.
Senior rightfielder
Brandon Brintz went 2-for-2 with a double, an RBI and scored a run, while freshman third baseman
Elijah Simon blasted a two-run home run, the first of his career, for the Huskies (14-15, 6-6 SLC).
Brooks Balisterri went 3-for-4 and drove in three runs, Justin McCarty went 2-for-3 with a double, three RBIs and three runs, and William Hancock went 1-for-3 and drove in three for the Bears (17-16, 7-8). Jansen McCurdy added a double and two RBIs, Hunter Strong doubled and scored three times and Rigo Aguilar homered, drove in three and scored three times.
Sophomore righthander
Zach Carter (4-3) took the loss for HBU, allowing six runs on five hits with a strikeout, two walks and two hit batters in 2.2 innings. The Huskies then used six more pitchers out of the bullpen.
Mark Moyer (4-1) went the distance for UCA, throwing 105 pitches, and allowing four runs on seven hits with six strikeouts and two walks.
The Huskies return to action with a non-conference game against Texas A&M-Corpus Christi Tuesday at 3 p.m., then host Abilene Christian in a three-game Southland series Thursday through Saturday at Husky Field.
