HOUSTON – HBU senior rightfielder
Brandon Brintz went 4-for-4, drove in two runs, scored twice and stole two bases to ignite the Huskies' offense in a 10-3 win over Abilene Christian to sweep the Southland Conference series Saturday at Husky Field.
Senior catcher
Blake Thomas went 2-for-3 with a home run, two walks, three RBIs and scored four times for HBU (17-15, 9-6 SLC). Junior leftfielder
Spencer Halloran went 2-for-4 with a walk and a pair of stolen bases, while senior centerfielder
Zane Otten singled, drove in a pair of runs and scored. Junior shortstop
Tyler Depreta-Johnson singled in his final at-bat to extend his hitting streak to 12 games.
Sophomore righthander
Daniel Endsley (2-2) allowed three runs, only one earned, on six hits with two strikeouts and a walk in 5.2 innings to earn the victory for the Huskies, and sophomore righthander
JT Newton notched his fifth save with 3.1 shutout innings, allowing four hits and striking out five with no walks.
Derek Scott went 3-for-5 with a home run and Anthony Dominguez went 2-for-4 for ACU (9-23, 1-17). Scott and Mark Pearson recorded an RBI apiece for the Wildcats.
David Ruot (0-3) took the loss for ACU, giving up two runs, one earned, on three hits in one-third of an inning. Starter Austin Lambright went 3.0 innings, giving up three runs, two earned, on three hits with two strikeouts and six walks, while twin brother Brandon Lambright threw 3.2 innings, giving up two runs, one earned, on three hits with three strikeouts and four walks.
ACU jumped out to an early lead when a dropped fly ball on the infield allowed a run to score and Pearson followed with an RBI single. Scott hit a solo home run to right in the third to put the Wildcats ahead, 3-0.
In the bottom of the third, Brintz singled, stole second, went to third on a wild pitch, then scored on another to put the Huskies on the board. The Huskies broke through for four runs in the fourth with Otten delivering a two run single to tie the game and Brintz following with an RBI single to give HBU the lead for good. Austin Zillweger added a bases-loaded walk for a 5-3 lead.
Thomas walked to lead off the fifth, then came around to score on another RBI single by Brintz. Thomas singled up the middle to lead off the seventh, went to third on an infield single by Brintz and scored on a throwing error to extend HBU's lead to four.
In the eighth, Depreta-Johnson singled to right and pinch hitter
Elijah Simon was hit by a pitch with two outs. Thomas then blasted a three-run home run to left, the first of his HBU career, to cap the scoring.
The Huskies wrap up their eight-game homestand with a non-conference game against Texas Southern Tuesday at 3 p.m. at Husky Field.
