BEAUMONT, Texas – HBU dropped its matchup against Lamar on Saturday afternoon at the Montagne Center, falling 74-22.
It took three minutes and 36 seconds for the first points of the game and it was tied 2-2 with 5:55 remaining in the first period. Lamar (20-6, 13-3 SLC) then went on a nine-point run before
Lisa Zderadicka hit a put-back jumped in the lane right before the buzzer to close out the period with the Huskies (6-20, 4-12 SLC) trailing 11-4.
The Cardinals scored the first 10 points of the second period, getting out to a 21-4 lead. A pair of
Shannon Jones baskets cut the HBU deficit to 13 but Lamar pulled away as the period rolled on, taking a 40-9 lead into the half.
In the second half, Lamar continued its stranglehold on the HBU offense, limiting the Huskies to just 13 points for the half. In the fourth period, Lamar held just a 10-7 scoring advantage.
Freshman
Shannon Jones was the top scorer for the Huskies, finishing with eight points.
Taylor Kollmorgen had a game-high 12 rebounds while also adding five points.
Lamar held a 46-35 advantage on the boards and forced the Huskies into 34 turnovers. As a team, HBU was able to shoot just 19.5 percent (9-of-46) from the floor while the Cardinals connected at a 43.5 percent (30-of-69) clip.
The Huskies travel to Corpus Christi, Texas to take on the Islanders of Texas A&M-Corpus Christi in their final road matchup of the season on Wednesday, March 1 at 7:00 p.m.
