CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas –Texas A&M-Corpus Christi raced out to a 13-1 lead and held HBU at arms length for the remainder of the game for a 68-51 victory in Southland Conference women's basketball Wednesday night at the Dugan Wellness Center.
Sophomore guard
Lisa Zderadicka led the Huskies (6-21, 4-13 SLC) with 13 points, while freshman guard
Sophie Taylor added 10 points off the bench. Sophomore center
Veronika Kirienko matched her career high with nine points and grabbed seven rebounds, while freshman forward
Taylor Kollmorgen pulled down a game-high 12 boards.
Kassie Jones led all scorers with 20 points for the Islanders (11-17, 7-10), while Camesha Davis had nine. Uri Jolivette, Ashanti Plummer and Brianna Jackson each scored seven, with Plummer leading TAMU-CC with seven rebounds.
TAMU-CC shot 38.7 percent from the field, 3-for-12 from 3-point range, and made 17-of-21 from the free throw line. HBU sshot 36.0 percent from the field, 3-for-11 from long distance, and 12-of-16 from the stripe. The Islanders outrebounded the Huskies, 38-34, and committed 10 fewer turnovers, 19-9.
The Huskies wrap up the regular season on Senior Day against Abilene Christian Saturday at 3:30 p.m. at Sharp Gym.
