OREM, Utah – Utah Valley scored what would be the game-winner in the ninth minute as the HBU men's soccer team came out on the losing end of a 2-0 decision in Western Athletic Conference play on Thursday night at Clyde Field.

Austin Buxton led the early threat for Utah Valley (5-8-2, 2-3-2 WAC) with three shots in the first eight minutes. A corner kick at the 8:35 mark led to a header by Giovanny Vazquez that was stopped by HBU (5-7-0, 2-5-0 WAC) goalkeeper Harrison Veith but Alec Felix was there to collect the loose ball and find the net to put the Wolverines ahead 1-0.

Early in the 16th minute, junior Devon Grant recorded the Huskies' first shot of the match on goal but UVU's Joseph Wheelwright made the save. The Wolverines extended their lead at the 32:03 mark when a pair of passes by Joe Barakat and Zach Maas resulted in a cross to Buxton whose header to the bottom left corner of the goal beat Veith and made it 2-0. Josue Palomino and Dominick Faletto both put shots on goal in the final 11 minutes of the half.

The Huskies were unable to muster a shot attempt in the second half while Veith made four saves along with a team save on a shot by Felix. Veith finished the night with five saves. Utah Valley held a 26-4 advantage in shots and took eight corner kicks to HBU's two.

HBU will close out its 2017 road schedule on Sunday night in Seattle, Wash. against No. 25 Seattle at 8:00 p.m. CST.
