HOUSTON – HBU head track & field/cross country coach Theresa Fuqua recently received the HBU Alumni Association's Hallmark Award at the Spirit of HBU Awards Dinner on October 7.

The Hallmark Award is presented annually to a member of the HBU faculty or staff who not only gives to current students but who helps sustain the bridge and connection to graduates long after alumni have crossed the stage. Fuqua, now in her 11th season, was hired in 2007 to revive the HBU track & field program. The Alumni Association honored Fuqua for her work in building the Husky track program as well as her work in starting the BackTheTrack campaign, keeping track & field alumni connected to their alma mater.

"Receiving the Hallmark award was gratifying, for sure," said Fuqua. "I love working here and I feel like what we do as coaches with athletic teams is very similar to what the alumni association does, which is work to bring back alumni. It's to instill a sense of pride in the institution and really create an experience for our student athletes that makes them want to come back and give back."
