WSOC: Idaho St. Takes 4-2 Decision Over HBU

Sabriah Spencer's early goal not enough to keep Idaho State on its heels.

POCATELLO, Idaho – HBU scored an early goal and tied the match midway through the second half, but Idaho State answered back to defeat HBU, 4-2, in the Huskies' second-straight road match Sunday at Davis Field.

"Today's game was a tale of two halves. We came out a little flat. It was nice to score an early goal but then we let up and gave up two goals. We made some tactical changes and the girls responded wonderfully. We played a great 30 minutes in the second half. We were all over them. Scored a great goal to tie it up. Unfortunately, they scored a pretty controversial third goal and we just didn't recover. We gave up a fourth pushing up tying to get the equalizer," said HBU head coach Misty Jones.

Sophomore foward Sabriah Spencer scored an early goal, with assist by junior defender Casey Basson, in the first half to get the momentum rolling.  Junior midfielder Ellee Hall, aided by sophomore foward Jessa LeBlanc, added another goal for HBU at the 72-minute mark.  Senior midfielder Allison Abendschien and senior forward Alessia Dal Monte together tallied five shots, adding to the team total of 17. Sophomore goalkeeper Alanis Guevara played aggressive on goal, making 12 saves.

ISU's Michaela Didericksen and Brooke Kortekaas each scored two goals, leading the Bengals to victory. Didericksen answered back to Spencer's early goal in the first half, then scored a second goal in the 38th minute. Following Hall's goal, Kortekaas finished the game off by adding two more goals for ISU. Jazmin Lopez and Meagan Bare recorded two and one assist, respectively.

"We are certainly making good progress and will put all the pieces together as we get closer to conference. This is a hard working group and talented group of players and I am excited for our future," mentioned Jones.

The Huskies will return to Houston to face Rice, Thursday, Aug 26 at 7 p.m., followed by their first home game of the season facing UTSA, Sunday at 5 p.m. at Sorrels Field.
