BSB: Nehrir Named Midwest League All-Star

Zach Nehrir named starting outfielder for Western Division.

Official Release
GENEVA, Ill. – Former HBU baseball standout Zach Nehrir has been named a Midwest League All-Star for the Kane County Cougars. Nehrir was selected as a starting outfielder for the Western Division.

Through 43 games, Nehrir is hitting .253 with 10 doubles, one home run, 17 RBI and 14 runs scored.

The all-star game will be held at Perfect Game Field at Veterans Memorial Stadium, home of the Cedar Rapids Kernels, on Tuesday, June 21. First pitch is at 7:05 p.m.

Nehrir was drafted by the Arizona Diamondbacks with the first pick of the 16th round (No. 466 overall) in the 2015 Major League Baseball First-Year Player Draft, becoming the highest draft selection in HBU history. He surpassed Kyle Smith, who was taken by the Cincinnati Reds in the 18th round in 2003.

A two-year letterwinner (2014-15), the native of Orange, California, was named a 2015 All-Southland Conference first team selection and helped lead the Huskies to the SLC Tournament title and the program's first-ever NCAA Regional appearance. In that season, Nehrir hit .333 with 10 doubles, five triples, five home runs, ranked second in the conference with 44 RBI and led team with 35 runs scored.

Nehrir is one of two Southland players representing the Cougars, joined by former Stephen F. Austin pitcher Cameron Gann.

The Cougars, based in Geneva, Illinois, are the Class A minor league affiliate of the Arizona Diamondbacks.
