HOUSTON – The HBU softball team fell 6-1 in their Southland Conference series finale with Stephen F. Austin on Saturday afternoon at Husky Field.

Despite the loss, the Huskies (12-21, 4-11 SLC) claim a 2-1 series win over the Ladyjacks (17-21, 7-7 SLC).

Junior pitcher Emily Mueller (2-2) took the loss in the rubber game, surrendering four runs (three earned) across four innings pitched. Senior Laci Belovsky, who started the game as the designated player, tossed the final three innings, allowing two runs.

Sophomore Callee Guffey (6-4) went the distance for SFA in the circle, retiring 12 straight between the first and fifth innings. She issued one walk and recorded two strikeouts.

Huskies Cecilia Bauer, Belovsky, Caitlin Gunn, Demi Janak, Shay Orsak and Nicole Shedd, all recorded one hit apiece. Gunn plated HBU's lone run on a sacrifice fly in the bottom of the seventh inning.

The Ladyjacks did most lot of their damage with the long ball, belting three home runs. SFA scored three runs in the second inning, tacking on one run in each of the fourth, sixth and seventh frames.

The Huskies broke up the shutout in the final at bat of the game. Singles from Belovsky, Shedd and Bauer loaded the bases to set up Gunn's sacrifice.

HBU will play its next four games on the road. The Huskies will play a three-game SLC series at Sam Houston State across April 15-16, before visiting Prairie View A&M in non-conference action on April 19.
