DENTON, Texas – The HBU softball team fell to UT Martin, 10-2, and host North Texas, 15-1, in a pair of five-inning run-rules to close the Mean Green Spring Fling on Sunday afternoon at Lovelace Stadium.
The Huskies (8-8) were led by junior
Shay Orsak, who turned in consecutive 2-for-3 showings at the plate.
Senior
Shannon O'Connor (1-3) was saddled with the loss against UTM (12-7), while senior
Laci Belovsky (5-4) took the decision against UNT (13-6). HBU finishes the tournament with a 0-5 record.
The Huskies struck first against the Skyhawks in their first game of the day, capitalizing on a sac bunt from sophomore
Demi Janak to plate one run in the opening frame. However UTM responded with four runs in both the second and third innings to take an 8-1 advantage.
HBU added one more run in the top of the fifth on a single from RBI single from Orsak, but the Skyhawks scored two runs in their next trip to complete the run-rule.
In the tournament finale, the Mean Green plated 15 runs, as the Huskies lone run came on a solo home run from senior
Erica Reyes in the bottom of the fifth.
HBU will be back in action on Friday, March 11, hosting Lamar in a two-day, three-game series to open Southland Conference play. Friday will see the two teams play in a doubleheader starting at 1 p.m., with the series finale to take place at noon on Saturday.
