Buy Photos HereHOUSTON – Abilene Christian outscored HBU, 21-6, in the first quarter and never looked back as the Southland Conference leaders defeated HBU women's basketball, 76-55, Wednesday evening from Sharp Gym.
Monet Neal led three Huskies (12-13 overall, 7-8 SLC) in double-figures with 15 points. She added nine rebounds in 31 minutes.
Anna Strickland posted her 20th double-double of the season with 10 points and a game-high 13 rebounds.
Lisa Zderadicka came off the bench to score 11 points as she hit two of the team's three shots from beyond the arc.
Brooklyn Moore scored two points, pulled down two rebounds, and had a steal in a career-high 12 minutes. As a team, HBU shot 40 percent from the floor.
ACU, (23-3, 14-1) the 20th-ranked team in the latest Mid-Major rankings, was paced by Alexis Mason with 23 points and eight rebounds. Suzzy Dimba chipped in with 14, while McKenzie Martin came off the bench to score 10. The Wildcats shot 48 percent from the floor in the game.
ACU set the tone in the first quarter, scoring 21 of the frame's 27 points and shooting 53 percent from the floor while holding HBU to only 13 percent shooting.
Heidi Sihvola started the second quarter with a layup, but ACU used a 12-1 run to lead HBU, 33-9, with 5:56 left in the second quarter. The Wildcats led by as many as 27 before
Amanda Johnson scored consecutive baskets to make the score 44-21 entering halftime.
Strickland led HBU with 10 points while Mason had 12 for the Wildcats. ACU shot 55 percent in the half compared to 26 percent for the Huskies.
HBU shot 64 percent (7-for-11) from the floor in the third quarter, but pulled even with ACU, 18-18. Johnson hit a three-pointer in the corner to highlight the frame.
The Huskies outscored (16-14) and shot better (54 percent-35 percent) than ACU in the fourth quarter. Zderadicka hit a three-pointer at the 2:16-mark to culminate an 8-2 run for HBU.
