GULF SHORES, Ala. – The HBU softball team was unable to comeback from a six-run deficit, falling 10-7 to Southeast Missouri State in the Sand Dollar Classic at Gulf Shores Sportsplex on Saturday night.
Freshman
Demi Janak broke out in a big way, going 2-for-4 with a single, grand slam, six RBI and one run scored for the Huskies (2-1). The native of Spring, Texas, factored in both of HBU's scoring innings against SEMO (1-2) with her home run, the first of her career, in the fourth inning and two-RBI single in the seventh.
Freshman
Savana Guidry also recorded two hits, turning in a 2-for-3 performance with two singles, two runs scored and one walk. Guidry also swiped two bags, the first stolen bases of her career.
Senior
Shay Orsak went 1-for-2 with a double, walk and two runs scored, while sophomore
Libby Brown and senior
Erica Reyes also recorded one hit each.
Junior
Emily Mueller (0-1) took the loss for Huskies in the circle, surrendering 11 hits and seven runs (three earned) across three innings. Senior
Shannon O'Connor then gave up three runs over one and two third innings, before senior
Laci Belovsky tossed the final inning and a third.
The Redhawks struck for 14 hits, including three doubles and two homers, in plating 10 runs across the first five innings.
HBU will close the tournament on Sunday, facing Florida A&M in a 9 a.m. first pitch.
