HOUSTON - The HBU women's basketball team couldn't overcome a tough night shooting the ball as they fell to crosstown foe Texas Southern on Sunday evening at Sharp Gym by a score of 50-34.
The game was tied 5-5 just a little over three minutes in but a nine-point run by TSU (5-2) was enough for the Lady Tigers to take a 14-7 lead into the second quarter. TSU again out-scored HBU (1-6) 14-7 in the second quarter for a 28-14 halftime lead.
In the third quarter, TSU pushed its lead to 19 after a pair of a Artavia Ford free throws but the Huskies battled back to score the final nine points of the quarter and enter the fourth trailing just 36-26. With 6:18 to go in the game, a
Lauren Calver fast break layup pulled the Huskies to within eight but TSU managed to score the final eight points of the contest.

Taylor Kollmorgen led the Huskies with 10 points, connecting on 8-8 from the charity stripe and 1-5 from the floor, and eight rebounds.
Heidi Byrd added six points and seven boards along with a pair of assists and a pair of steals while Calver finished with seven points.
TSU's Ford led all players with 15 points while adding seven rebounds. Joyce Kennerson ended the night with 12 points and Breasia McElrath finished with 10.
The Huskies ended the game with a 41-34 advantage in rebounds but managed to shoot just 20 percent for the game, connecting on 10-50 from the field. TSU was 16-48 from the floor for 33.3 percent. The scoring difference in the game came in points off turnovers with the Lady Tigers holding a 22-6 edge.
HBU remains at home for its next two games, beginning with Arlington Baptist on Friday, December 9 at 7:00 p.m. The Huskies will then host Louisiana-Monroe on Wednesday, December 21 at 7:00 p.m.
