BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – On Saturday afternoon at Simon Skjodt Assembly Hall, the HBU men's basketball team fell to the ninth-ranked Indiana Hoosiers by a score of 103-61.
The Huskies (3-5) opened the scoring on a jumper by
Reveal Chukwujekwu and with the score going back and forth in the early going, a
Colter Lasher three tied the game at 7-7. After falling behind 10-7, a Lasher jumper and a free throw from
Josh Ibarra gave HBU a 12-10 lead with 12:22 left in the half. A nearly four minute scoring drought for the Huskies saw the Hoosiers catch fire and string together a 14-point run for a 24-12 lead. Indiana (8-1) pushed its lead as high as 19, taking a 41-22 lead on a James Blackmon Jr. three-pointer with 3:29 to go in the half. HBU cut into its deficit down the stretch to enter halftime trailing 42-27.
In the second half, HBU kept the score under 20, trailing 60-41 with 13:33 to play. The Hoosiers pulled away throughout the rest of the second half.
Lasher finished the game tied for a game-high 18 points on 8-13 shooting, adding four rebounds, three assists and a pair of steals The senior was 1-4 from three, bringing his career three-pointer made total to 94, good for a tie for 10
th all-time in HBU program history. Chukwujekwu matched his season-best with 15 points and pulled down a team-high six boards. Sophomore
Braxton Bonds added nine points and five rebounds for HBU.
Indiana had five players reach double-digits in scoring, highlighted by 18 from Blackmon. Thomas Bryant narrowly missed a double-double, totaling 13 rebounds and nine points.
The Hoosiers held a 45-31 advantage in rebounding after HBU went into the half holding a 21-20 advantage. The Huskies shot 37.9 percent from the floor and struggled from three, connecting on just 2-17 from deep. With 12 offensive rebounds, HBU has now pulled down at least 10 offensive boards in every game this season.
The Huskies will return home for their last home game before the new year, hosting Arlington Baptist at Sharp Gym at 7:00 p.m. on Saturday, December 17.
