CHICAGO – HBU junior linebacker
Garrett Dolan has been placed on the STATS Buck Buchanan Award Watch List, which honors the FCS Defensive Player of the Year.
The Mont Belvieu, Texas, native leads the FCS and is second in all of Division I with 12.7 tackles per game, while forcing two fumbles, recovering two and posting two sacks. Dolan opened the season by tying his school record with 18 tackles at Central Arkansas, then took the FCS lead with a 17-tackle performance last week at UTEP.
A two-time All-Southland Conference selection, Dolan has started all 30 games during his HBU career and is the school's all-time leader with 306 tackles. He has added six sacks, five forced fumbles and three recoveries.
The award is named after Junious "Buck" Buchanan, who was an all-American defensive lineman at Grambling State and was the first overall pick in the 1963 NFL Draft by the Kansas City Chiefs. Appalachian State's Dexter Coakley won the inaugural award in 1995, then again in 1996, and is still the only repeat winner.
The Huskies host their final home game of the season against Stephen F. Austin on Senior Day Saturday at 2 p.m. at Husky Stadium, before wrapping up the season at Incarnate Word Thursday, Nov. 17 at 7 p.m. in San Antonio.
