MBB: Odunsi Drafted by NBA D-League's Canton Charge

Former Huskies guard selected in fifth round.

NEW YORK – Former HBU basketball standout Anthony Odunsi was selected with the 13th pick in the fifth round of the NBA Development League Draft by the Canton Charge Sunday.

"Everyone's book is written differently and today God added a new chapter in my book," Odunsi said. "I am very grateful and blessed to go to training camp with the Canton Charge. None of this would be possible if I didn't come to Houston Baptist University…one of the best decision I have made in my life. My coaches and my teammates have been the biggest supporters since I arrived on campus two years ago. I will never forget them or what this university has done for me."

A 6-4, 205-pound guard, Odunsi earned All-Southland Conference First Team honors last season, leading the Huskies to a 17-17 overall record and the fourth seed at the conference tournament with a 10-8 league mark. HBU also made its first NCAA postseason appearance since 1984 with a berth in the College Basketball Invitational (CBI). The Sugar Land, Texas, native averaged 17.5 points, 4.5 rebounds, 3.7 assists and 1.2 steals per game overall, while averaging 20.0 points, 4.6 rebounds, 3.9 assists and 1.6 steals per game in conference play.

Odunsi shot 47.5 percent from the field, 33.3 percent from 3-point range and 83.9 percent from the free-throw line. He ranked third nationally in both free throws made (255) and attempted (304).

The Canton Charge is affiliated with and owned by the NBA champion Cleveland Cavaliers. The Charge open the 2016-17 season on the road against the Grand Rapids Drive Friday, Nov. 11 at 6 p.m. CDT, the same night HBU opens its season on the road against Texas Tech at 7 p.m. in Lubbock.
