WSOC: Huskies Shut Out Lamar, 3-0

Morgan Dean and Charlotte Vancura both score their second goal of the season.

BEAUMONT, Texas – HBU was able to get an important road game victory against Southland Conference member Lamar, 3-0, Sunday afternoon at LU Soccer Complex.

"It was great to get the win on the road," head coach Misty Jones commented after the win. "Our bench was key in our win today. They provided tons of energy and scored two goals (Morgan and Charlotte). The win keeps us in the hunt for a bid to the conference tournament."

In the 32nd minute, senior midfielder Allison Abendschein struck the ball and it bounced off of the post. Sophomore forward Sabriah Spencer was there to clean it up as she finished the deflection to find the back of the net. Six minutes later sophomore forward Autumn Wildung crossed the ball from the right corner to find senior forward Morgan Dean. She made a run at the top of the box and hit the ball first time 15 yards away. The ball took a bounce over the diving goalkeeper and crossed the goal line before the keeper was able to get to it.

The Huskies (6-10-1, 4-5-1 SLC) were rewarded a free kick after a Cardinal (1-14-3, 0-7-3 SLC) foul in the 70th minute. Senior defender Jennifer Gebhardt served the ball into the box, but it was cleared off of the head of a Lamar defender. Junior defender Casey Basso served it back into the box on her first touch and junior midfielder Charlotte Vancura made a run to the far post where she gave the Huskies a 3-0 lead in the 71st minute.

Wildung led HBU in the offensive stats with two shots on goal, but was helped by Abendschein, Spencer, Dean, Vancura, and sophomore forward Jessa LeBlanc to make the team total of seven shots on goal. Sophomore goalkeeper Alanis Guevara earned the shutout win making three saves on the afternoon.

Juliana Ocampo, Marie Lund, and Cassie Marciante each had one shot on goal for Lamar. Rachel Gries took home the loss as she was forced to make four saves with three goals against.

The Huskies will travel to Corpus Christi, Texas for their final regular season conference match, against Texas A&M- Corpus Christi, Friday at 7:30 p.m.
