FB: HBU Falls at SE Louisiana, 37-3

Junior wide receiver Ethan Fry makes four catches for 91 yards for Huskies.



HAMMOND, Louisiana – HBU committed a season-high three turnovers as Southeastern Louisiana handed the Huskies a 37-3 defeat in Southland Conference football Saturday afternoon at Strawberry Stadium.
 
Senior quarterback Tony Dawson completed 11-of-23 passes for 178 yards and an interception, while being held to 28 rushing yards for HBU (2-5, 1-4 SLC). Junior running back Terrance Peters carried 13 times for 51 yards and caught two passes for 36 yards, and junior running back B.J. Kelly rushed nine times for 34 yards. Junior wide receiver Ethan Fry made four receptions for 91 yards.
 
Junior linebackers Garrett Dolan and Cody Moncure each made 11 tackles for the Huskies. Freshman safety Nicholas Smith and senior linebacker Dorrin Turner each added six stops. Junior Christian Guzman averaged 44.0 yards on five punts, including two of 50-plus yards, while sophomore kicker Alec Chadwick accounted for the only points, going 1-of-2 on field goal attempts.
 
D'Shaie Landor completed 16-of-30 passes for 229 yards and a pair of touchdowns, while rushing for 33 for SLU (4-3, 4-1). Rasheed Harrell had nine carries for 84 yards and a touchdowns, and Julius Maracalin had 14 carries for 81 yards and a score. Juwan Dickey had five catches for 66 yards, while Javon Conner made five for 53.
 
Javon Tillman and Max Lyons led the Lions with eight stops each, and Torrance Mosley chipped in with seven. Sione Teuhema had 1.5 sacks, Demarayeh Lane made an interception and Anthony Murphy had a sack, which forced a fumble.
 
SLU piled up 563 yards of offense, while holding HBU to 293. The Lions rushed for 334 yards, picking up 30 first downs, while the Huskies rushed for 115 and only mustered 14 first downs.
 
The Huskies received the opening kickoff and Dawson completed a 58-yard pass to Fry down to the SLU 15-yard line. Chadwick then missed a 27-yard field goal attempt off the right upright. SLU answered with a 51-yard touchdown run by Harrell with 10:15 remaining.
 
SLU turned the ball over on downs at the HBU 32, then Dawson completed a swing pass to Peters for a 27-yard gain to the SLU 28. Chadwick connected on a 43-yard field goal to make the score, 7-3, as the time ran out in the opening frame.
 
Landor opened the second with a 40-yard completion to Pack a, then a 17-yard pass to Dickey for a first down. Maracalin took it the rest of the way, from eight yards out for a touchdown. Jonathan Tatum missed the extra point, leaving the score at 13-3.
 
HBU got the ball with 4:37 left in the half and Dawson connected on a 35 yard completion to junior Brandon Taylor down to the SLU 1. After junior h-back Mev Ajdin was stuffed on first down, Peters fumbled at the goal line and it was recovered by the Lions and returned to the 5. SLU quickly marched down the field and Tatum made a 22-yard field goal as time expired to give the Lions a 16-3 lead at the break.
 
SLU took the second-half kickoff and Landor completed a 24-yard pass to Conner and a 34-yard pass to Bransen Schwebel. Landor then found Acker for an 11-yard touchdown to put the Lions ahead, 23-3. Later in the quarter, Landor added a 22-yard strike to Jake Ingraffia. Darius Durall capped the scoring with a 16-yard touchdown with 6:04 left in the game.
 
The Huskies return to action when they travel to Lamar for a 6 p.m. league matchup at Provost Umphrey Stadium in Beaumont, Texas.
