HBU Head Coach Vic Shealy Quotes
On Nicholls: "We're disappointed we didn't make enough plays to find a way to win last week. Coach (Tim) Rebowe continues to do a tremendous job and his kids play so well and so hard and it was probably a pretty good college football game to watch, but was unfornuate we didn't get it done. I think 13 penalties and some things we did against such a good football team, you can't make those mistakes. We had our opportunities and I know we continue to improve as a program and try to build culture. It was a tough night in so many ways, but proud of the kids who strive each week to better themselves."
Â
On Southeastern Louisiana: "I got a chance to watch some of the (Southeastern Louisiana-Stephen F. Austin) tape and watch the three phases. I'm really impreossed with the improvement...Coach (Ron) Roberts had tough opponents those first couple of weeks and with some new kids just trying to build the expectations for this group of kids. Obviously, he's figured out what they do well and you see all the ways they did contribute to a great win for them on the road, and I think it speaks well for the quality of athlete they have in the program. It verifies what we all know that to beat a good football team you have to play well in all areas and you just can't beat yourself."
Â
On Tony Dawson: "Tony really has worked so hard since he's been on our campus. I think once we finished up our season last year, with two quarterbacks in our program we feel like we can with, just Tony's dedication to what he could control -- how much he could work in the weight room, how much time he spent on the field throwing, studying tape and trying to be coachable. I think it's a real credit to him and his desire to prepare to play. His first game out was a tough one against Central Arkansas and their phenomenal defense and there's some reasons for those things, but he's continued to go in and be a tremendous student of the game, he's a tremendous leader that it always smiling, is always upbeat, is always 'next play' and our football team has rallied behind him and I think he continues to better himself every week. Obviously, we want to keep the guy healthy and I feel like there's a lot of football left for him to really impact our season and expect him to continue to do that this week."
