HOUSTON – Junior outside hitter Bailey Bank's record-breaking performance was not enough for HBU as Lamar was able to past, 3-2 (22-25, 25-21, 25-19, 21-25, 13-15), in Southland Conference volleyball in Sharp Gym Saturday afternoon.
The Huskies (11-8, 2-1 SLC) were led by Banks both offensively and defensively as she recorded 27 kills and 19 digs, which were the most kills in a five-set match since HBU returned to Division I in 2007. Jessica Barrera's mark of 26 kills against Briar Cliff on Aug. 25, 2007, stood for nine years. Senior outside hitter
Melissa Fuchs helped offensively tallying 15 kills of her own, while senior right side Ashlee Van chipped in with 12. Junior defensive specialist
Hailey Erickson had 17 digs for the afternoon while junior middle blocker
Blair Gillard led the team with 10 blocks, including two solo, to go along with her nine kills. Senior setter
Kayla Armer led both teams with 59 assists, while also adding 13 digs and two service aces.
Chelsea Grant led the Cardinals (2-13, 2-1 SLC) with 22 kills and Haley Morton tallied 49 assists. Carlyn Stella led Lamar with 18 digs and was helped by Lauren Stahlman with 16 of her own. Dannisha House and Morton led the Cardinals each with three service aces.
Lamar hit .210 with 60 kills and 26 errors in 162 attempts, while HBU hit .251 (66/24/167). The Huskies were ahead in the dig department, 71-69, but the Cardinals out blocked the Huskies, 15-11.
HBU will be home in Sharp Gym for a pair of Southland Conference matches, beginning Thursday against Northwestern State at 7 p.m., then again Saturday at 1 p.m. for a matchup with Central Arkansas.
