NEW ORLEANS – Leading by six entering the fourth quarter, HBU outscored New Orleans, 23-9, in the final frame to defeat the Privateers, 71-51, Saturday afternoon from Lakefront Arena.

Rachel Arthur scored a game-high 20 points to lead three Huskies (8-8 overall, 3-3 SLC) in double figures, as she went 6-for-10 from the floor, 2-for-3 from beyond the arc, and tied her career high of six free throws made. She also had four rebounds, four assists, and a season-high four steals. Amanda Johnson had a career day, as she set new career highs in points (19), field goals made (7), rebounds (5), and minutes played (24), while tying her career high of three pointers connected (3). Anna Strickland had 12 points and a game-high 15 rebounds, while tying her season high of four blocked shots. As a team, HBU shot 44 percent from the floor in the game.

Halie Matthews came off the bench to score a team-high 12 points for UNO (5-9, 2-3), while Jewell Angelo chipped in with seven. HBU held the Southland Conference's leading scorer Randi Brown to a season-low five points. Three Privateers had a team-high four rebounds. As a team, UNO shot 40 percent from the floor.

After spotting the Privateers a 2-0 lead, HBU scored seven unanswered to take a 7-2 lead with 3:46 to go in the first quarter. UNO came back to take an 8-7 lead but the Huskies used a 9-0 run that ended the first quarter and continued onto the second, culminated by a Strickland three-pointer, as HBU took a 16-8 lead with 9:20 remaining in the second quarter.

Angelo stopped the bleeding for UNO with a jumper, but Meghan Shank came down the floor and swished a trey. Back-to-back Strickland jumpers gave HBU its largest lead of the game of the half, 23-10, with 7:15 left in the first half before UNO used an 8-0 run to cut the deficit to five, 23-18. The Huskies increased their lead back up to seven, 27-20, but the Privateers closed the half outscoring HBU, 7-1, as the Huskies led by three at the break, 28-25.

HBU spread the points around, with six players scoring at least two points and Shank with a team-best seven. Strickland had a half-high 13 rebounds and five assists, three shy of her career high of eight. Matthews led UNO with eight points, followed by Ariele Davis' seven. Mathilde Fogelstrom pulled down a team-best four rebounds. HBU held Brown to two points.

Consecutive Privateer jumpers gave the hosts a one-point lead, but three-pointers by Johnson and Arthur gave HBU a five-point lead, 34-29, with just under eight minutes remaining in the third quarter. But UNO scored five unanswered to knot the game at 34-all. Following a Strickland block and Johnson rebound, Johnson went down the floor and swished a trey to give the Huskies a three-point advantage, 37-34, with 4:40 remaining. UNO cut the deficit to one with 2:11 to go in the quarter, but HBU put the defensive pressure on to close the quarter on a 7-2 run to enter the fourth quarter leading 48-42, highlighted by another block by Strickland and a steal by Arthur.

HBU scored the first six points of the fourth quarter, taking a 12-point lead and forcing a UNO timeout three-and-a-half minutes into the frame. The breather didn't slow the Huskies' momentum, as HBU scored five more points before UNO got on the board, a Fogelstrom jumper following another trey by Johnson which made the score 59-44 in favor of the Huskies. An Arthur three pointer at the 1:23-mark gave HBU its largest lead of the game, 70-46.

Johnson led all players with 17 second-half points, while Arthur had 10. Four different Privateers had four points. As a team, HBU shot 48 percent in the half compared to 39 percent for UNO.

HBU takes a week off before competing in another ESPN3 game, at preseason favorite Lamar on Saturday, Jan. 23 at 4 p.m.
