Trent Herman recorded his 100th victory as the HBU volleyball team defeated McNeese State 3-1 (25-21, 17-25, 25-23, 25-19) to close the Jaguar Invitational on Saturday afternoon inside Jag Gym.
Junior outside hitter
Jessica Wooten paced the Huskies (7-4), recording her sixth double-double of the season in a 16-dig, 14-kill performance against the Cowgirls (1-7) in a non-conference meeting.
Junior setter
Kayla Armer joined Wooten in the double-double club, picking up her third with 41 assists and 13 digs. The native of Bradenton, Florida, accumulated 40-plus assists for a third straight match. For their efforts, Armer and Wooten were named to the all-tournament team.
Sophomore
Blair Gillard also turned in an impressive match, registering nine kills and a season-high eight blocks. As a team, HBU recorded a season-high 13 total blocks.
The Huskies led from 5-4 on in taking the first set 25-21, before McNeese evened the match with a 25-17 victory in the second set.
Wooten (7) and Gillard (6) combined for 13 kills, as HBU turned in .325 and .423 attack percentages in the third and fourth set to close the match 3-1.
The Huskies will wrap up their non-conference tournament schedule at the Golden Hurricane Invitational across September 18-19, playing host Tulsa, North Texas and Oral Roberts.
