HOUSTON – The HBU volleyball team opens the 2015 season hosting Alcorn State, Louisiana Tech and UT Rio Grande Valley in the Marriott Houston Westchase Invitational running Friday and Saturday at Sharp Gym.
The Huskies open the two-day, round-robin tournament against Alcorn State at 7 p.m., before facing UT Rio Grande Valley (10 a.m.) and Louisiana Tech (7 p.m.) on Saturday. The complete tournament format is as follows:

4:30 p.m. - Louisiana Tech vs. UTRGV
7:00 p.m. - HBU vs. Alcorn State
• Saturday, Aug. 29:
10:00 a.m. - HBU vs. UTRGV
12:00 p.m. - Alcorn State vs. Louisiana Tech
4:00 p.m. - Alcorn State vs. UTRGV
7:00 p.m. - HBU vs. Louisiana Tech
Tickets are $5 for adults and $2 for students. Admission is free for children 12 and under.
HBU returns nine letterwinners from the 2014 squad that finished the season with a 15-17 overall record and 9-7 mark in Southland Conference play, earning the sixth seed in the conference tournament for a second straight season.
Senior Allison Doerpinghaus and juniors Kayla Armer and Jessica Wooten were named to the 2015 Preseason All-Southland Conference first team, as the Huskies were picked fourth and fifth in the preseason polls conducted by coaches and sports information directors.
Following the tournament, HBU will visit Prairie View A&M in a 6:30 p.m. first serve on Tuesday, Sept. 1, before heading to Flagstaff, Arizona, for the Lumberjack Classic (Sept. 4-5) hosted by Northern Arizona.
