Photo GalleryAUSTIN, Texas – Texas scored two goals in the first half and added a second-half tally as the Longhorns defeated HBU in an exhibition match Friday at Mike A. Myers Track and Soccer Stadium.
"We seemed on our heels a bit in the first half," said HBU head coach
Misty Jones. "We gave them more opportunities than we needed to. In the second half, our forwards did a great job of high pressuring the back line. We were more organized and got some pretty good opportunities. We played two tough opponents in our scrimmages and we do that to see where we are. Overall, I feel like it was a successful night."
Texas scored its first goal of the match in the 16th minute, as Mikayla Flores took a shot from a tough angle that beat HBU goalkeeper
Alanis Guevara. Katie Glenn assisted on the goal.
Fifteen minutes later, the Longhorns struck again, as Julia Dyche took a corner and Lindsey Meyer headed the ball into the back of the net for a 2-0 Texas lead.
Texas had 11 shots and seven corner kicks in the first half, as Guevara made four saves.
HBU put some pressure on in the second half and had some quality chances.
Ellee Hall,
Alessia Dal Monte, and
Charlotte Vancura each had a shot on goal. Texas scored its third goal in the 79th minute as Alexa Adams sent in a cross that Jasmine Hart scored.
Guevara made six saves in the complete-game effort, while Abby Smith made three saves for Texas.
HBU opens the regular season at home against Texas Southern Friday, Aug. 21 at 7 pm. Admission is free.
