HOUSTON – Several members of the HBU volleyball program visited Texas Children's Hospital on Thursday, spending the afternoon visiting with patients and their families.
"It was a great experience for the players," head coach
Trent Herman said. "Being able to brighten up those kids' day, even if only for a little, means a lot to us."
Teammates
Kayla Davenport,
Allison Doerpinghaus,
Melissa Fuchs,
Courtney Kankel,
Krista Martin and
Ashlee Vann, each took time away from their studies to interact with children and their families at the hospital.
"We all had a really good time," Vann said. "It was amazing seeing how happy the children and their families were to see us and give out shirts. It made me realize that whatever we go through as a team, we can still have a smile on our faces."
"Yesterday was such a great and impacting experience," Davenport said. "When some of my teammates and I walked the halls of Texas Children's, I realized that the ones who suffer from the more challenging battles are the ones who seem to have the brightest smile and the loudest laugh. I could just feel the strength and hope radiating from them. It was definitely a day to remember."
The Huskies open the 2015 season on Friday, Aug. 28, hosting Alcorn State at 7 p.m. in Sharp Gym, as part of the Marriott Houston Westchase Invitational.
