HCU wins third of last four games at ETAMU

COMMERCE, TX – HCU volleyball played its second road game of the weekend today versus East Texas A&M in an SLC rematch that ended in a 3-1 Lion victory.

East Texas A&M started the match strong, separating from the Huskies late in the set with an 8-1 scoring run that ended the set with a score of 25-15. HCU's squad put a fight of their own in the second set by going on a nine-point run early in the set to take a 12-4 lead. Even as the Lions tried to rally back, the Huskies kept scoring, and ended the set with a score of 25-16. Both teams kept a balanced attack in the third set, keeping an even score through most of the set, until East Texas A&M separated with a score of 23-20. HCU followed up with a five-point scoring run that included three Sa'Myah Medford kills that ended the set in the Huskies' favor, 25-23. The fourth set was kept closely contested until an ETAMU five-point scoring run gave the Lions a 16-11 lead and led an attack that the Huskies could not come back from, ending the set with a score of 25-18, forcing a fifth set. Both teams kept a back-and-forth effort in the fifth set, trading points and leads. Tied 8-8, HCU found a second gear to take an 11-8 lead and then followed up an ETAMU point with a four-point run that included two kills from Joya Euhus to secure a victory for the Huskies 3-2.

Joya Euhus led the offensive attack for the Huskies today, adding 17 kills and 4 blocks. Freshman standout Malaya Balina-Ayers was a force on the defensive end, leading the match with 8 blocks.
