VB: Huskies Roll Past Cowgirls to Win Second Straight at Home

Barger sets a new season high in Kills to lead HCU past McNeese

HOUSTON – The HCU volleyball squad stayed at home for another Southland Conference matchup versus a tough McNeese team and followed up their Thursday night win with another impressive showing.

The Huskies got off to a slow start in a first set that included eight lead changes. Both teams kept an even score throughout the high-scoring set. After a back-and-forth late in the set, McNeese caught a hold of a three-point rally that won them the set with a score of 29-27. After losing the first set, the Huskies battled back and began what would become three dominant sets. In the second set, the Huskies went on three separate four-point scoring runs and ended the set 25-17 with a kill followed by a solo block from freshman Malaya Balina-Ayers. In the third set, HCU kept the momentum rolling by taking a lead early in the set and not letting up, keeping the lead the entire set and closing it out on a six-point scoring run to win the set, 25-18. Similar to the third set, the Huskies grabbed a lead and kept it through the entire fourth set. Late in the set, HCU found a five-point scoring run, fueled by two Katy Barger kills and two Enisilina Savelio service aces. A strong Sa'Myah Medford kill ended the set 25-17 and gave the Huskies the match 3-1, sealing the Huskies' second straight SLC win and second straight win at home.

In a strong match from HCU, Katy Barger led the attack for the Huskies, amassing a season-high 19 kills while also adding 3 blocks, and a match-high .279 hitting average. Enisilina Savelio also made her mark on the match today, adding 41 assists, 10 digs, and 4 server aces to her season stats.

The Huskies will hit the road again next weekend to faceoff against Northwestern State on Thursday, Oct. 29 and East Texas A&M on Saturday, Oct. 31.
