Men's Basketball Announces 2010s All-Decade Team

Art Bernardi, Mario Flaherty, Andrew Gonzalez honored during Saturday's game.

HOUSTON – To wrap up its 50th Season celebration, the HBU Basketball program named its sixth and final All-Decade Team, honoring the best players from the 2010s during halftime of Saturday night's overtime victory against Incarnate Word.

The team consists of Art Bernardi, Mario Flaherty and Andrew Gonzalez. Two positions were left open, because the current decade is not complete. The final two spots will be determined following the 2018-19 season.

Bernardi was a two-year letterwinner from 2011-2013 and was a first-team All-Great West Conference selection as a senior. During the 2012-13 season, he led the team by averaging 14.7 points and 7.0 rebounds per game and had 37 steals and 27 blocked shots. As a junior, he averaged 12.0 points and 4.6 rebounds per game.

Flaherty was a two-year letterwinner from 2008-2010. As a junior, he appeared in all 30 games and made 20 starts, averaging 6.3 points and 3.3 rebounds per game. As a senior, he averaged 13.8 points and 9.2 rebounds per game, and his 47 blocked shots are the 14th-highest total in a single season at HBU. Flaherty was named first-team All-Great West Conference and helped the Huskies to the Great West title game in their first season in the league. He recorded 12 double-doubles, which included a career-high 30-point, 11 rebound performance against NJIT on January 16, 2010, and a 17-point, and career-high 20-rebound effort against South Dakota on January 28.

Gonzalez was a two-year letterwinner from 2009-2011 and scored more than any other transfer in HBU history with 1,292 points. In his junior season, he averaged 18.9 points per game, was named Great West Conference Newcomer of the Year and was a first-team All-Great West selection. As a senior, Gonzalez ranked eighth in the nation with 22.9 points per game, the second-highest average in school history, and was a first-team All-Great West selection. For his career, he scored 30 or more points six times, including a pair of career-high 36-point performances.
