BEAUMONT, Texas – Junior outside hitter
Jessica Wooten turned in an 18-dig, 18-kill performance, but the HBU volleyball team was unable to get the better of Lamar in a 3-1 loss (19-25, 25-22, 27-29, 18-25) on Thursday night inside McDonald Gym.
Wooten's outing marked her team-leading 13th double-double of the season, as her 18 digs were a season-high. The native of Humble, Texas, was one of two Huskies (15-15, 7-8 SLC) to finish with double-figure kills, joined with 12 from senior middle blocker
Allison Doerpinghaus.
Junior setter
Kayla Armer finished with 40 assists against the Cardinals (14-15, 4-11 SLC), while sophomore outside hitter
Bailey Banks and junior libero
Melissa Fuchs finished with 14 and 13 digs on the back row, respectfully.
Sophomore middle blocker
Blair Gillard recorded eight blocks, followed by six from Doerpinghaus.
Lamar outhit HBU .290-.091 in taking the opening set, 25-19.
In set two, Wooten (6), Banks (3) and Doerpinghaus (3) combined for 12 kills to put the Huskies over the top 25-22 and even the match at the break.
Despite hitting a match-high .268 clip and getting seven more kills from Wooten in the third set, the Cardinal tandem of Cortney Moore and Autumn Taylor each turned in six kills to edge HBU late in the stanza at 29-27.
Lamar closed out the match with a 25-18 victory in set four.
The Huskies will close the regular season on Saturday, visiting Sam Houston State in a 2 p.m. match.
