VB: Huskies Fall at Sam Houston State, 3-1

HBU will enter the Southland Conference Tournament as the sixth seed.



HUNTSVILLE, Texas – The HBU volleyball team fell 3-1 (20-25, 25-21, 17-25, 14-25) at Sam Houston State in their regular season finale on Saturday afternoon inside Johnson Coliseum.
 
With the loss, the Huskies finish with a 15-16 overall record and 7-9 mark in Southland Conference play. HBU, one of four teams to finish 7-9, will be the six seed in the SLC Tournament.
 
Junior setter Kayla Armer recorded her 12th double-double of the season, finishing with 32 assists and 12 digs against the Bearkats (13-17, 7-9 SLC). Armer, who also tied her career-high with six blocks, was one of four Huskies to record double-figure digs, joined by junior libero Melissa Fuchs (14), sophomore outside hitter Bailey Banks (12) and sophomore defensive specialist Hailey Erickson (10).
 
Junior outside hitter Jessica Wooten led the Huskies with 14 kills, while senior middle blocker Allison Doerpinghaus turned in an eight-block, seven-kill performance.
 
Despite outhitting SHSU .156-.146 in the opening set, the Bearkats claimed a 25-20 win. However, HBU responded in set two, holding SHSU to a .064 efficiency to even the match at the break with a 25-21 victory.
 
Over the final two sets, Bearkat Brooke White, who finished with 22 kills, recorded 14 to close the match in a 3-1 decision.
 
The Huskies will face third-seeded Stephen F. Austin in the SLC Tournament on Friday at 4:00 p.m. at host Central Arkansas.
