HOUSTON – Lamar jumped out to a 2-0 lead first-half lead and never looked back in a 2-1 victory over the HBU women's soccer team Wednesday evening from Sorrels Field.

Ellee Hall scored for HBU (9-5-1 overall, 7-3-0 SLC), as she was one of three Huskies to have two shots on goal. Allison Abendschein had a game-high five shot attempts. Alanis Guevara took the loss in goal as she made five saves.

Lamar (7-11-1, 3-6-1) was paced by goal scorers Alexus Aviles and Jannet Hernandez. The league's leading scorer, Jordan Mulnix, was held pointless, as she took a team-best four shots. Lauren Lovejoy earned the win between the pipes as she stopped 10 shots.

The Cardinals took a 1-0 lead in the 15th minute as Aviles scored near side, assisted by Morgan Burden. In the 40th minute, Hernandez entered the game as a sub. One minute later, she scored on a penalty kick to give Lamar a 2-0 lead.

The Huskies cut the deficit in half in the 79th minute, as Sabriah Spencer's initial shot was stopped by Lovejoy, but Hall scooped up the rebound for her fourth goal of the season.

In the 89th minute, Spencer took a shot, but Lovejoy made a spectacular leaping save, resulting in a corner kick. Hall took the corner, but the Cardinals cleared it out of harm's way.

HBU outshot Lamar, 22-10, in the match and held a 6-4 advantage in corner kicks.

HBU closes the regular season hosting Texas A&M-Corpus Christi Friday, Oct. 30 at 5 p.m. in the front end of a soccer doubleheader. It will also be Senior Day for Blake Martin and Rebekah Tovar.
