"I thought we controlled the rhythm of the game," said HBU head coach
Misty Jones. "We talked about scoring early in the second half and that's what we did. The wind was at our backs in the second half, so we were completing passes and moving around quicker. Overall, we put together a pretty complete game."
Ellee Hall,
Rebekah Tovar, and
Elizabeth Adams each scored for HBU (9-4-1 overall, 7-2-0 SLC), which won its third-straight game.
Gabby Rodriguez earned an assist on the night. Hall and
Sabriah Spencer each had three shots, with the former having a game-high three shots on goal.
Alanis Guevara earned the win in goal as she made one save.
McNeese State's (6-9-0, 3-6-0) leading scorer, Gabi D'Alesandro, scored for the Cowgirls, as she and Sara Ortiz had a team high two shots apiece. Maggie Marks suffered the loss in goal as she stopped three shots.
HBU drew first blood 11 minutes in, as Rodriguez ran up the side, sent in a centering pass into the box that Hall got a foot on past Marks for a 1-0 Huskies lead.
The Cowgirls came back 10 minutes later as HBU was whistled for a foul. D'Alesandro took the free kick and fired a shot from about 20 yards out to tie the match at 1-all.
HBU outshot the Cowgirls, 9-4, in the first half and held a 3-2 advantage in corner kicks.
Ten minutes into the second half, Tovar and the Huskies took a 2-1 lead, as she fired a beautiful shot that snuck just under the cross bar.
The Huskies almost took a 3-1 lead seconds later as
Baylii Bieke took a long shot that curled and hit the cross bar and out of bounds, keeping the match a one-goal affair.
Adams gave HBU a two-goal lead in the 61st minute, as she took a shot well outside the box, but found its way to the back of the net for her first-collegiate goal.
HBU outshot the Cowgirls, 7-2, in the half for a 16-6 edge in the match. HBU had all five of the half's corner kicks for an 8-2 advantage in the match.
HBU is tentatively set to host Lamar Sunday, October 25 at 1 p.m. at Sorrels Field, but the forecast is calling for heavy rain throughout the weekend. Please check back to HBUHuskies.com for the latest information.
