Live StreamHOUSTON – The HBU volleyball team will host Texas A&M – Corpus Christi in a 1 p.m. match for Homecoming on Saturday inside Sharp Gym.
The Huskies (8-9, 1-2 SLC) are looking to bounce back after dropping 3-1 and 3-0 decisions versus Southeastern Louisiana (Sept. 26) and at Central Arkansas (Sept. 29) their last two times out.
On the season, junior outside hitter
Jessica Wooten leads the HBU offense and ranks seventh in the Southland Conference with 3.05 kills per set. The native of Humble, Texas, also anchors the team on the back row, averaging 2.95 digs per set. Junior setter
Kayla Armer ranks fourth in the SLC with 9.17 assists per set.
Defensively, sophomore middle blocker
Blair Gillard ranks third in the conference with 1.02 blocks per set.
Collectively, the Huskies sit third in the SLC in blocks (2.14 per set), fourth in hitting percentage (.202) and fifth in opponent hitting percentage (.194).
The league-leading Islanders (15-4, 3-0 SLC) enter their second contest of a four-match road swing after defeating Prairie View A&M, 3-0, on the road Thursday night. In SLC play, TAMU-CC has knocked off Central Arkansas (Sept. 17), Southeastern Louisiana (Sept. 24) and New Orleans (Sept. 26) in straight sets. The Islanders have swept their last four opponents.
Overall, TAMU-CC leads the conference in kills (13.29 per set), assists (12.45 per set), digs (16.91 per set), hitting percentage (.241) and opponent hitting percentage (.140).
Sophomore setter Kristyn Nicholson leads the SLC in assists (10.67 per set), while sophomore libero Kate Klepetka holds the top conference mark in digs (5.84 per set). Sophomore middle blockers Brittany Gilpin (.384) and Madeleine Doud (.295) rank second and seventh in the league in hitting percentage. Seniors Ivy Baresh (3.34 per set) and Kelsee Felux (2.94 per set) rank sixth and eighth in kills.
Fans who are attending the HBU-College of Faith football game later in the evening can present their ticket at the door for free admission.
Following Saturday's match, the Huskies will hit the road with visits to Northwestern State (Oct. 8) and Stephen F. Austin (Oct. 10) next week.
