Men’s Basketball Names 60s & 70s All-Decade Teams

Ten legends honored during 50th Season celebration.



HOUSTON – As part of HBU Men's Basketball's 50th Season celebration, the program will be honoring its All-Decade Teams as determined by a panel and online voting.
 
During HBU's victory Saturday over New Orleans, the All-Decade Teams for the 1960s and 1970s were announced during halftime. Former HBU head coach Gerald Myers, who guided the Huskies from 1967-70, and Rose Nell Richards, the wife of late former HBU head coach Lonnie Richards, who succeeded Myers from 1970-75, were on hand to present the awards to the honorees.
 
The 1960s All-Decade Team is comprised of Rick Bailey, Charlie Bonds, John Brady, Ronnie Moore and Steve Stone.
 
Bailey was a two-year letterwinner for the Huskies in 1964-65 and 1966-67. He was inducted into the HBU Sports Hall of Honor, along with his sons, Ryan and Ty, in 2002 and is a past chairman of the HBU Board of Trustees. Bonds was HBU's first-ever four-year letterwinner from 1964 to 1967. Brady was a two-year letterwinner for HBU for the 1966-1967 season and the 1967-1968 campaign. Moore was a three-year letterwinner from 1966 to 1968. Stone was also a two-year letterwinner for the Huskies in 1967 and 1968. He led HBU in scoring with 13.6 points per game during the 1967-68 season.
 
The 1970s All-Decade Team is comprised of Eddie Brown, E.C. Coleman, Mack Coleman, Robert "Babyface" Paige and Jim Skaggs.
 
Brown was a four-year letterwinner for the Huskies from 1969 to 1972 and ranks as the Huskies' all-time leading scorer with 1,939 career points. He led HBU in scoring with 20.8 points per game during the 1968-1969 season and 18.6 points per game during the 1970-1971 campaign.
 
E.C. Coleman was a four-year letterwinner from 1969 to 1973. He ranks second on HBU's all-time scoring list with 1,846 points and is the school's all-time leader with 1,287 rebounds, standing as the only player in school history with at least 1,000 points and 1,000 rebounds. Coleman led the team in scoring during the 1969-70 season, averaged a career-high 21.9 points during the 1971-1972 season and also led the team with 20.6 points per game in the 1972-1973 campaign. E.C. was a third-round pick by the Houston Rockets in 1973 and also played for New Orleans and Golden State.
 
Mack Coleman was a three-year letterwinner for the Huskies from 1973 to 1975. Mack passed away in 1977 and his award was accepted by his brother, E.C. Mack scored 1,106 points in only three seasons and led the Huskies in scoring with 22.4 points per game during the 1974-1975 campaign. He led the team in rebounding during the 1973-1974 and 1974-1975 seasons. Coleman was a fourth-round draft pick by the New Orleans Jazz in 1975.
 
Paige was a two-year letterwinner for HBU from 1974-1976. He ranks sixth all-time for the Huskies with 774 rebounds for an average of 8.0 per game. Paige averaged 10.2 rebounds per game during the 1975-1976 season, was a sixth-round pick by the Houston Rockets and played for 10 years with the Harlem Globetrotters.
 
Skaggs was a four-year letterwinner for HBU from 1970-74. He ranks 20th all-time with 1,133 career points and ranks third all-time in school history, shooting 81.6 percent from the free throw line. Skaggs scored a career-high 35 points against Hardin Simmons on Jan. 9, 1971, and set an HBU record by making 19-of-19 from the free throw line during that game.
 
Join HBU men's basketball all season long as it continues to announce and honor the All-Decade Teams. Next Saturday, Jan. 24 against Lamar, the All-Decade Team for the 1980s will be revealed. On Feb. 14 against Sam Houston State the All-Decade Team for the 1990s will be announced. On Feb. 28 against Stephen F. Austin, the All-Decade Team for the 2000s will be honored and for the season finale on March 7 against Incarnate Word, the All-Decade Team for the 2010s will be announced, as well as Senior Night.
