HOUSTON – HBU sophomore center Cody Stetler knocked down a pair of free throws with 14 seconds left, then blocked a shot with four seconds on the clock as the Huskies slipped past New Orleans, 74-73, in Southland Conference basketball Saturday night at Sharp Gym. HBU wore 1970s throwback jerseys as the Huskies honored their All-Decade Teams for the 1960s and 1970s.

Sophomore forward Colter Lasher went 7-for-12 from the field to lead HBU (7-8, 2-3 SLC) with 18 points, 14 in the second half, and nine rebounds, while junior guard Jourdan Stickler poured in a career-high 14 points off the bench and junior guard Anthony Odunsi added 11 points, seven rebounds and five assists. Freshman center Josh Ibarra had seven points, seven rebounds and three blocked shots in his first career start.

Nate Frye made 6-of-13 from the field and 6-of-7 from the line to finish with 20 points for the Privateers (5-8, 1-3). Kevin Hill had 13 points, going 9-for-12 from the line, and seven rebounds, while Tevin Broyles had 13 points and Christavious Gill had 11.

HBU shot 37 percent from the field, 3-for-8 from behind the arc, and 27-for-37 from the line, while UNO shot 38 percent, 5-for-9 from 3-point range, and 26-for-35 from the line. The Huskies outrebounded the Privateers, 47-33, including 21-12 on the offensive boards.

Ibarra had five early points around a three by senior guard Tyler Russell as HBU jumped out to an 8-3 lead, but UNO battled back at got to within two at 12-10 at the 13:00 mark. A pair of free throws by Russell and another two by Stickler extended the Huskies' lead to six, but Privateers tied the game, 16-16 on a pair of free throws by Michael Zeno with 8:42 to go.

UNO took its first lead at 19-17 on a three  by free, but sophomore forward Reveal Chukwujekwu sank a pair of free throws, Odunsi drove in for a layup and Chukwujekwu's putback put HBU back up by four. Broyles tied it again on a jumper with 6:36, but the Huskies answered with a layup by freshman guard Trey Patterson, then a jumper by Russell.

The Huskies led 28-25 with 4:54 remaining, but the Privateers went on an 11-1 run, capped by threes from Broyles and Frye to go up 36-29 with 2:53 left. The Huskies got back to within four, but Frye went the distance and his layup at the buzzer gave UNO a 40-34 lead at the break. Russell led the Huskies with seven points in the first half, while Frye had 14 for the Privateers.

One minute into the second half, Gill nailed a three to give UNO a 47-36 lead, which would be its largest of the game. Chukwujekwu scored four-straight points, then Lasher scored the Huskies' next seven as they outscored the Privateers, 12-4, over the next 3:16, to slice the deficit to 51-48. Stickler and Stetler had back-to-back layups to tie the game, 52-52, but Broyles made a jumper to keep UNO on top.

Stickler buried a jumper that regained the lead for the Huskies, then added free throw to make it a two-point game. Gill answered with a pair of free throws, then made a layup and Hill added two free throws to give UNO a 60-56 lead with 8:11 to play. With HBU trailing by three, Lasher made a layup, Stetler drilled two free throw, then a three-point play and two more free throws by Lasher put the Huskies up, 67-61 with 3:39 left.

Hill made one of two free throws, Gill hit a deep three, then made one of two free throws to cut HBU's lead to one with 1:55 remaining. Odunsi sank two free throws, but Frye came back with two of his own to keep UNO within one. Stickler buried a three that put the Huskies ahead by four with 1:16 on the clock, but Hill made two free throws and Frye's three-point play with 35 seconds left put the Privateers ahead, 73-72. Stetler was fouled going strong to the basket, then calmly swished both free throws with 14 seconds left. On UNO's final possession, Frye had a shot blocked by Stetler and the Privateers called a timeout with 4.7 left. Frye then challenged Stetler on the game's final play and his 17-foot jumper was long as the Huskies held on for the one-point decision.

The Huskies return to action when they host Central Arkansas Monday at 7 p.m. at Sharp Gym.
