HAMMOND, La. – HBU sophomore outside hitter
Jessica Wooten recorded a double-double of 14 kills and 20 digs for the Huskies in their 3-0 (25-23, 25-20, 25-21) victory over Southeastern Louisiana Saturday afternoon during Southland Conference play.
Senior outside hitter
Bailey Keith had 11 kills for the Huskies. Sophomore setter
Kayla Armer recorded a match-high of 36 assists for HBU (7-9, 2-0 SLC). Freshman middle blocker
Blair Gillard had four block assists for the Huskies. Senior libero
Haley Hoffman recorded 16 digs for HBU.
Parrie Hartley recorded 13 kills for Southeastern Louisiana. Veronica Turk had 11 kills for the Lions. Mikayla Shippy had 27 assists for SLU. Morgan Todd recorded a match-high of 30 digs, while Kacey Freeman had 12 digs for the Lions. Rachael Bunn had five block assists for Southeastern Louisiana.
In the first set, HBU trailed 8-7, but scored three straight on kills by senior outside hitter
Megan McStravick and two by Wooten to take the lead. The Huskies extended their lead 16-12, but the Lions battled back to within two, then scored four straight to take a 20-19 lead. HBU tied up the game at 20-20 with a kill by Wooten. The Huskies then took the lead for the rest of the set, ending in a result of 25-23.
In the second set, the Lions led 8-7, but the Huskies took the lead for good on a block and a kill by Keith. The Huskies pushed their lead to four at 18-14, then closed out the set 25-20.
In the third set, HBU jumped out to a 6-1 lead, but the Lions came back to tie the set 11-11. The Huskies re-gained the lead by as many as three, but Southeastern once again came back to tie the set 19-19. The Lions took the lead on a kill by Hartley, but HBU answered with four straight points and went on to take the match 25-21.
The Huskies return to action Saturday, Oct. 4 to face A&M Corpus Christi at 1 p.m. in Corpus Christi, Texas.
