Men’s Soccer Rolls to 4-0 Win Past Belmont

Poser earns shutout in Huskies’ debut; Baez scores first-collegiate goal

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Junior transfer goalkeeper Philip Poser made three saves to earn the shutout in his HBU debut, and junior midfielder Alex Baez scored his first-collegiate goal, as the Huskies defeated Belmont, 4-0, Friday to conclude the Hyatt Place Select Lipscomb Invitational.

Patrick Toh led HBU (1-2-2) with eight shots and four shots on goal, as he, Baez, Thilo Borgmann, and Stefan Lamanna each scored a goal. Gustavo Alvarado recorded two assists.

Poser became the first keeper since the program's resurrection in 2006 to record a shutout in his debut. It is his fifth-career whitewash, as he had four shutouts in two seasons at Holy Names University.

Luca Schioppa led Belmont (1-6-0) with three shots, while Nat Hubert, Pedro Balaguer, and A.J. Arnold had a shot on goal apiece.

Grayson Rector suffered the loss in goal, as he made four saves in 90 minutes.

HBU wasted little time getting a lead as the Huskies took advantage of an early corner kick opportunity. Alvarado took the corner, who found George Kelley, who flicked the ball to Stefan Lamanna for his second goal of the season, as HBU led 1-0 in the 4th minute.

HBU almost took a 2-0 lead a few minutes later, as Toh's header attempt in the ninth minute sailed wide.

Belmont led HBU in shots, 7-6, as shots on goal were even at two apiece. The Huskies had all three corner attempts.

Borgmann put the Huskies ahead 2-0 in the 57th minute, as he scorched a shot from 12 yards out.

HBU scored two goals less than two minutes apart to pull ahead from the Bruins, 4-0. Toh's initial shot was saved by Rector, but he scooped up the rebound and banged it home in the 63rd minute. Early in the 65th minute, the Huskies were awarded a corner kick. Baez headed in Alvarado's corner kick for his first-collegiate goal.

The Huskies outshot the Bruins, 12-4, in the second half and had a 5-1 advantage in corner kicks.

Lamanna and Miguel Zapata earned spots on the All-Tournament Team.

HBU remains on the road as it completes the home-and-home with Oral Roberts Sept. 22 at 7 pm. The two teams battled to a 1-1 tie in Houston on Sept. 5.
