Bisons turn 2-1 lead to 4-1 advantage with two goals 2:35 apart late in second half

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Lipscomb turned a 2-1 lead to a 4-1 advantage with two goals 2:35 apart late in the second half to defeat HBU, 4-1, on the opening day of the Hyatt Place Select Lipscomb Invitational Wednesday night.

Gustavo Alvarado and Tobenna Uzo each took a team-high three shots for HBU (0-2-2), while Alvarado had two shots on goal. Uzo scored for the Huskies. Kevin Suarez took the loss in goal, as he made eight saves, which were one short of his career high he set at Drake earlier this season.

Jonathan Ramirez came off the bench to take a match-high four shots for Lipscomb (5-1-0), while Omar Djabi and Matt Kerridge each took three shots. Djabi scored two goals for the Bisons. Nate Davis made three saves in the win.

Lipscomb scored two goals eight minutes apart, as Anthony Cedeno scored the first tally on a corner kick in the 15th minute, followed by a goal from Djabi in the 23rd minute.

Uzo cut the deficit in half, as he scored his second goal of the season in the 31st minute to make the score 2-1 in favor of the Bisons. Alvarado took a corner kick, which was deflected by Davis, but right to Uzo, who scored.

Lipscomb led the Huskies by that score entering halftime. The Bisons doubled up the Huskies in shots, 10-5, and held a slim 4-3 advantage in shots on goal.

HBU couldn't get the equalizer as the second half got underway. Davis stopped an HBU corner kick in the 60th minute.

Lipscomb scored two goals in a span of 2:35 to seal the win for the Bisons and put them ahead, 4-1. Djabi scored his second goal of the match in the 74th minute and Luke Gearin nailed a penalty kick in the 76th minute.

The Bisons outshot HBU, 19-10, for the match, and took more corners, 10-6.
