HOUSTON – Junior midfielder
Thilo Borgmann scored his first goal of the season, but visiting IUPUI scored three unanswered goals in the second half to defeat HBU, 3-1, Saturday night at Sorrels Field.
Patrick Toh led HBU (0-1-2) with three shots, which were all on target.
Tobenna Uzo had two shots.
Kevin Suarez took the loss in goal as he made five saves in 90 minutes.
Four different players had two shots for IUPUI (1-3-0), while Ben Ogedegbe had two shots on goal. Christian Lomeli started in goal and made two saves while allowing one goal in 45 minutes. Eduardo Cortez earned the win as he made three saves in the second half.
Uzo nearly gave HBU a 1-0 lead just eight minutes into the match, as his shot hit the cross bar. With five minutes remaining until halftime, Borgmann put the Huskies up 1-0, assisted by
Gustavo Alvarado. Alvarado sent a long pass up the left side and Borgmann sailed a shot past Lomeli in the upper right part.
IUPUI outshot HBU, 6-5, in the first half and doubled up the Huskies in corner kicks, 6-3.
Two minutes into the second half, the Jaguars tied the match, as HBU turned the ball over deep in their territory and Jonny Williams scooped the ball and scored past Suarez at the 47:29-mark.
IUPUI took a 2-1 lead in the 57
th minute, as Joshua Ayala scored off a free kick. In the 62
nd minute, following an HBU red card, IUPUI leading scorer, Emmanuel Usen, gave the Jaguars a 3-1 lead with a goal just outside the box.
IUPUI outshot HBU, 13-8, in the match, but HBU had a slim 7-6 advantage in corner kicks.
HBU will be on the road for the next four matches, beginning with the Lipscomb Invitational next Wednesday and Friday, Sept. 17 and 19.
