DES MOINES, Iowa – A pair of seniors set new career highs in HBU's 2-2 overtime tie at Drake Friday night: forward
Patrick Toh had his first two-goal match, while keeper
Kevin Suarez made nine saves.
Toh led all players with four points, while
Tobenna Uzo and
Alex Baez each had one point. Toh and
Gustavo Alvarado had three shots apiece to lead the Huskies. The nine saves for Suarez were the most since he stopped eight at Butler in 2011.
James Wypych had a goal and an assist for Drake. Eric Williams recorded a match-high five shots. Darrin McLeod made two saves in goal for the Bulldogs.
Drake took 1-0 and 2-1 leads, but both times Toh scored the equalizer.
After the Bulldogs' Ben LeMay gave the hosts a 1-0 lead in the 13
th minute, Toh tied the match two minutes later, assisted by Uzo, with a beautiful shot that hit the cross bar and dropped down over the goal line.
Drake took a 2-1 lead into the locker room, as Wypych scored, assisted by Alec Bartlett, in the 30
th minute. Drake outshot HBU, 7-1, in the first half, as Suarez made five saves in the first 45 minutes.
Toh tied the match at 2-all in the 70
th minute, as he redirected a deflected shot that came from Baez.
Shots were even in the second half, 7-7. Drake had four shots in the two overtime sessions – three in the first OT – that resulted in Suarez making a pair of saves to salvage the tie.
HBU hosts Oral Roberts next Friday, Sept. 5 at 5 pm.
