Tobenna Uzo scored two more goals and
Patrick Toh scored the first goal of the match, as HBU defeated visiting St. Edward's, 3-1, in the final exhibition match Saturday evening at Sorrels Field.
In three exhibition matches, Uzo scored four goals. In tonight's match, he led the Huskies with three shots, while he and Toh each had two shots on goal.
Kevin Suarez started the match between the pipes and made one save in 61:03.
Chance Pope allowed the lone Hilltopper goal and made two saves in the final 29:48 of the match.
Andrew Fox registered six of St. Edward's 11 total shots, and connected on half of them. Kevin Leib played all 90 minutes in goal and made two saves while allowing three goals.
Similar to Wednesday's match against San Jacinto, HBU wasted little time getting a lead, as Toh scored at the 4:10-mark, assisted by
Gustavo Alvarado. Leib stopped Alvarado's initial shot, but the rebound went right to Toh, who banged the ball home for a 1-0 Huskies' lead.
Uzo proceeded to take over the match, as he scored both of his goals nine minutes apart to give HBU a 3-0 lead. His first goal was a beauty, as Toh sent in a cross pass and Uzo headed the ball just under the cross bar.
Thilo Borgmann assisted on Uzo's second strike.
HBU outshot the Hilltoppers, 8-3, in the first half, and 5-1 in shots on goal.
HBU played a more defensive game in the second half, as St. Edward's got on the scoreboard midway through the half, off the foot of Josh Taylor, assisted by Fox. That was all the closer the Hilltoppers got, despite outshooting the Huskies, 8-2, in the half.
HBU begins the regular season at Drake on Aug. 29 at 7 pm. The Huskies are then home Sept. 5 against Oral Roberts at 5 pm.
