Gustavo Alvarado finished things off as the HBU men's soccer team defeated San Jacinto, 3-0, in an exhibition match Wednesday.
The Huskies wasted little time taking the lead, as Uzo scored an unassisted goal in the fourth minute off a blocked shot. He scored his second goal of the match in the 24
th minute, as he sailed a long shot to the top right corner of the net.
HBU outshot the Coyotes, 7-3, in the first half and 3-1 in shots on goal.
The Huskies had another quick start to a half, as Alvarado's goal came two minutes into the second half, assisted by
Thilo Borgmann. Alvarado received Borgmann's throw-in and snuck the ball into the lower-left corner for a 3-0 Huskies lead.
San Jac outshot the Huskies, 4-3, in the second half, but HBU held a 10-7 overall advantage in shots.
Alvarado led HBU with four shots, while he, Uzo, and
Patrick Toh had two shots on goal apiece.
Kevin Suarez started in goal and made one save in the first half.
Chance Pope played the first 22:31 of the second half.
Philip Poser made one save in the final 22:29.
Roberto Fernandez had four of San Jac's seven shots, while Saheed Atolagbe and O'Neal Moore each had a shot on goal. Jhonattan Garduno played the first half and made one save and allowed two goals. Gavin Ng saw action in the second half and allowed one goal and made two saves.
HBU concludes exhibition play with a home contest this Saturday, Aug. 23, against St. Edward's. Kick-off is set for a 7 pm start.
