ABILENE, Texas – Tied 4-4 after two innings, HBU scored twice in the fourth and one in the sixth to take game three from Abilene Christian, 7-4, Sunday afternoon to take the series from the Wildcats.
Kirsten Schwirtlich went a perfect 2-for-2 at the plate for HBU (19-25 overall, 12-12 SLC), as she had an RBI, two runs, and a walk.
Lauren Schwirtlich also had a two-hit day, as she went 2-for-4 with an RBI and a run.
Emily Mueller started the game and gave up two runs (one earned) and one hit with two walks in one-third of an inning.
Shannon O'Connor (7-6) pitched the final 6.2 innings and allowed seven hits, two runs, and one walk. She struck out five batters, which were one shy of her career high.
Taylor Brown went 3-for-4 with an RBI and two runs for ACU (19-27 overall, 8-9 SLC). Ashley Nolan went 2-for-4 with one RBI. Peyton Mosley started in the circle and got a no decision, as she allowed five hits, four runs, and two walks in 3.2 innings. Emily Seidel (2-8) took the loss, as she gave up four hits, three runs (one earned), and three walks in 3.1 innings.
ACU took an early 2-0 lead in the bottom of the first on a fielder's choice and an error. The Huskies took a 4-2 lead heading to the bottom of the second, as
Melissa Herman and
Daniella Rodarte each scored on separate wild pitches,
Victoria Granchelli crossed home on an infield single, and L. Schwirtlich scored on an RBI double by
Shay Orsak.
The Wildcats tied the game with a pair of runs in the bottom of the second on two RBI singles.
After O'Connor struck out two of the three Wildcats to end the bottom of the third, the Huskies took a 6-4 lead in the top of the fourth on an RBI single by K. Schwirtlich, who later scored unearned on a wild pitch.
O'Connor got eight-straight Wildcats out until Nolan's leadoff single in the bottom of the fifth. But the Huskies got a sacrifice bunt, a foul out, and a pop up to end the inning.
HBU added an insurance run in the top of the sixth on an RBI double by Herman that scored K. Schwirtlich.
HBU concludes the regular season hosting Texas A&M-Corpus Christi for a three-game series Saturday and Sunday, May 3 and 4. Saturday's doubleheader begins at 1 pm, while Sunday's single game starts at 2 pm. Immediately following Sunday's game, seniors Rodarte, L. Schwirtlich,
Kendall Stiefel, and
Holly Webb will be honored.
