Kirsten Schwirtlich homers for Huskies



CONWAY, Ark. – Kirsten Schwirtlich's team-leading eighth home run in the top of the first gave HBU a 1-0 lead, but Central Arkansas scored five unanswered, four of which came in the final two innings, to defeat the Huskies, 5-1, Friday afternoon at Farris Field.

HBU (16-23 overall, 10-11 SLC) was limited to one hit in the game, as K. Schwirtlich went 1-for-2 with an RBI and a run scored on her solo shot. Emily Mueller (7-8) took the loss in the circle, as she allowed seven hits, four runs, and two walks with three strikeouts. Kendall Stiefel and Shannon O'Connor pitched the final 1.1 innings, as Stiefel allowed a run and three walks in one-third of an inning and O'Connor gave up a hit and a walk in one inning.

Ashley Boswell and Taylor Dear each had two hits for Central Arkansas (20-29 overall, 9-11 SLC), as Boswell had three RBI. Kylee Studioso (12-8) earned the complete-game win, as she allowed one hit, one run, and five walks with 10 strikeouts.

For the third-straight time in the series, HBU took the first lead, as K. Schwirtlich hit a two-run home run to center field in the top of the first for an early 1-0 lead for the Huskies.

The Bears tied the game on Sarah Bigej's RBI double in the bottom of the third. UCA then scored three times in the bottom of the fifth to take a 4-1 lead, as Boswell hit a bases-clearing triple. UCA's final run came an inning later, as Dear hit an RBI single.

HBU plays its final non-conference games of the season next Wednesday, April 23, against the University of Houston. First pitch from Cougar Softball Complex begins at 5 pm.
