HOUSTON – Prior to Saturday's Southland Conference season finale between HBU and McNeese State, HBU will honor the 30th anniversary of the 1983-84 team that advanced to the NCAA Tournament, the only trip to the "big dance" in school history.

Several members of the 1983-84 team, including head coach Gene Iba, will be on hand to be honored in a pregame ceremony beginning at 7:30 p.m. at Sharp Gym.

The 1983-84 Huskies went 24-7 for the season, won the Trans America Athletic Conference regular season and tournament titles, becoming the first team in the league to ever accomplish both in the same season. By winning the tournament title, HBU earned the TAAC's automatic berth to the NCAA Tournament, becoming the first team in school history to advance to NCAA postseason competition.

Led by Anicet Lavodrama and Terry Hairston, HBU ranked first in the nation that season in field goal percentage and among the top 10 in field goal percentage defense.

All are invited to come out and help recognize the accomplishments of this outstanding team and its contributions to the legacy of HBU athletics.

The Huskies and Cowboys tipoff following the ceremony, while The Legacy Sports Network Broadcast with Lonnie King begins at 7:25 p.m. with the pregame show.

HBU (6-24, 2-15 SLC) is led by sophomore guard Rob Lewis, who averages 12.8 points per game, and scored a career-high 28 points in Thursday's loss to Nicholls State. Sophomore forward Cody Joyce is averaging 9.8 points per game, while freshman forward Colter Lasher has scored in double figures in six of the last nine games. Junior center Ricmonds Vilde leads the Huskies with 4.9 rebounds per game.

Ledrick Eackles leads McNeese State (10-19, 8-9) at 17.2 points per game, while Kevin Hardy adds 10.9 and Desharick Guidry averages 10.0 points per game and leads the Cowboys with 8.0 rebounds per game.

The Cowboys claimed a 70-68 victory over the Huskies in this season's previous meeting on Jan. 18 in Lake Charles, La. Hardy drove in for a go-ahead dunk with six seconds remaining, then Lewis missed a potential game tying pull-up 18-foot jumper as time expired.
