HOUSTON – On a blustery Sunday afternoon at Husky Field, HBU relied on the long ball to subdue Southeastern Louisiana, 10-0 in five innings.
HBU hit three homers on the day and out-hit the Lady Lions, 13-4.
Daniella Rodarte went 3-for-3 for HBU (9-14 overall, 5-4 SLC), which won its fourth-straight game.
Shay Orsak went 2-for-3 and hit a key three-run homer.
Kirsten Schwirtlich and
Cecilia Bauer also had two-hit days.
Kendall Stiefel (2-6) earned the complete-game win in the circle, as she allowed four hits and two walks with five strikeouts.
Four different players had a hit for Southeastern Louisiana (9-11 overall, 3-6 SLC). Rachael Hellyer (1-4) started in the circle and took the loss, as she allowed six hits and five runs in 1.2 innings. Teresa Lemos pitched 2.0 innings of middle relief and allowed seven hits, five runs (four earned), and one walk. Spencer Adkinson relieved Lemos and struck out the only batter she faced.
After a scoreless first inning, HBU used a six-run bottom of the second.
Alyssa Burnett hit an RBI double for the Huskies' first run of the game. The very next batter,
Holly Webb, hit an RBI single that scored Burnett for a 2-0 lead. After
Lauren Schwirtlich singled to put runners at the corners, Orsak cleared the bases with a three-run homer to left-center to give HBU a 5-0 lead. K. Schwirtlich then singled, advanced to second on a passed ball, then scored on an RBI single by
Melissa Herman for a 6-0 HBU advantage.
Bauer led off the bottom of the third with a blast to center field for a 7-0 lead. Rodarte, who reached base on a single, eventually scored on a wild pitch for the Huskies' 8th run of the game.
K. Schwirtlich made it 9-0 with a lead-off homer to right-center field to lead off the bottom of the fourth. Rodarte's RBI single that scored Bauer completed the scoring.
HBU steps out of Southland action to play a doubleheader at UTSA on March 26 at 4 pm. The Huskies host Stephen F. Austin for a three-game set beginning Saturday, March 29 at 1 pm.
