CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas – Junior forward
Shanice Steenholdt led HBU with 22 points and eight rebounds, but Texas A&M-Corpus Christi was too much for HBU women's basketball, in the Huskies' 90-65 loss to the Islanders Saturday afternoon at Dugan Wellness Center.
Steenholdt's numbers led HBU (11-16 overall, 7-9 SLC), as she shot 9-for-14 from the floor and had two assists, three blocks, and one steal.

The sixth-best scorer in the conference, coming in averaging 15.6 points per game, Jasmine Shaw scored 20 points for the Islanders, going 7-for-10 from the floor and 6-for-9 from beyond the arc. Seventeen of those points came in the first half.
Similar to last Saturday, HBU jumped out to the early lead, but the Islanders rattled off nine-straight points to take a 9-4 lead. A
Rachel Arthur steal and fast-break layup cut the deficit to three, 9-6, with 15:46 remaining in the opening half.
Back-to-back Shaw three-pointers gave TAMUCC a 15-8 lead and forced the Huskies to take a timeout with 14:13 remaining. A 5-1 run by the Huskies cut the deficit to three again, 16-13, and forced the Islanders to take a timeout with 11:26 to go in the first half.
TAMUCC closed out the first half on a 28-15 run to lead HBU at the break, 44-28. TAMUCC used a 17-2 run to turn a seven-point lead to a 22-point advantage.
Arthur led HBU with 11 first-half points, while Steenholdt had nine points and a half-best five rebounds. Shaw led all players with 17 points, as she went 6-for-7 from the floor and 5-for-6 from beyond the arc. Huff chipped in with 15 points. TAMUCC shot 62 percent from the floor compared to HBU's 42 percent.
HBU used a 7-2 stretch in the first four minutes of the second half to cut the deficit to 11, 46-35. Steenholdt had five of the seven points. After the first media timeout of the second half, the Islanders weathered the storm and jumped out to a 55-39 advantage midway through regulation, despite shooting just 19 percent from the floor in the second half.
The 11-point deficit early in the second half was the closest the Huskies came, but the Huskies never quit fighting, as back-to-back three-pointers by Jefferson followed by a charge by
Monet Neal made the deficit 15, 76-61, with 2:30 remaining and the Huskies with possession. The Huskies couldn't get closer with that possession and back-to-back Brittany Mbamalu three-pointers sealed the victory for the Islanders.
HBU hosts Nicholls Thursday, March 6 at 5 pm and McNeese State Saturday, March 8 at 3 pm, still in the hunt for the final playoff spot for the conference tournament. Prior to Saturday's game,
