BEAUMONT, Texas –Lamar scored nine first-half touchdowns as the Cardinals defeated HBU, 72-14, in Southland Conference football Saturday night at Provost Umphrey Stadium.

Isaiah Hall led the Huskies (2-7, 1-5 SLC) with 60 rushing yards on 11 carries, while redshirt freshman running back
B.J. Kelly carried 11 times for 50 yards. Sophomore running back
Jackie Robinson had 31 yards and a touchdown. Sophomore quarterback
Jonathan Fleming completed 12-of-27 passes for 116 yards. Redshirt freshman
Ethan Fry made two catches for 42 yards, and senior
Darian Lazard returned to the field to make three catches for 33 yards.
On defense, redshirt freshman safety
Taylor Thompson led HBU with nine tackles and made his team-leading third interception.
Dominique Barnett and
Josh Jones each made six tackles, while
Garrett Dolan had five.
Caleb Berry completed 15-of-22 passes for 391 yards and seven touchdowns for Lamar (6-3, 3-2). Mark Roberts made five catches for 205 yards and four touchdowns, while Brent Salenga rushed five times for 79 yards and a score for the Cardinals.
In the first quarter, Berry threw touchdowns of 31, 61 and 81 yards to Roberts and added a 57-yarder to Gratia Gladney has the Cardinals jumped out to a 28-0 lead. Berry then found Devonn Brown for 25 yards and Jayce Nelson from 24 yards out, before Thompson picked him off and returned it 52 yards for the HBU touchdown.
Berry found Roberts with 26 seconds left in the half to put Lamar ahead, 62-7, at the break.
Hall led the Huskies on a 14-play, 80-yard drive that lasted 6:06. He rushed for 45 yards on the drive, with Robinson adding 20, including his one-yard touchdown run. Hall led HBU on another promising drive at the end of the game, but was intercepted at the goal line with 15 seconds left.
The Huskies will hit the road for the final trip of the season against Southeastern Louisiana Saturday, Nov. 8 in Hammond, La., before wrapping up the year at home against Sam Houston State Saturday, Nov. 15 at Husky Stadium.
