SEATTLE, Wash. – Sophomore forward
Tobenna Uzo cut HBU's deficit to 2-1 early in the first half, but Seattle scored in the 44
th minute to take the momentum and the match, 3-1, Friday evening at Championship Field.
Uzo led HBU (2-9-2 overall, 1-6-0 WAC) with four shots and three shots on goal.
Gustavo Alvarado earned an assist on the day.
Kevin Suarez started the match and took the loss in goal. He allowed three goals and made three saves in 53:30.
Philip Poser played the final 36:30 and made one save.
Ian Hines-Ike had a three-point match for Seattle (9-5-1 overall, 4-2-1 WAC). Kyle Bjornethun and Hamza Haddadi also scored for the Redhawks. Brady Ballew took a match-high six shots.
Shane Haworth made six saves and allowed one goal in goal.
Seattle scored two goals five minutes apart. In the 6
th minute, Alex Roldan sent a cross into the box and Haddadi scored. Following an HBU foul in the 11
th minute, Hines-Ike scored on the ensuing free kick.
In the 13
th minute,
Stefan Lamanna's shot was blocked, which led to an HBU's corner kick. Alvarado took the corner and Uzo headed the ball past Haworth to cut the deficit, 2-1.
In the 44
th minute, the Redhawks were awarded a corner kick following a Suarez save off a shot by Ballew. Hines-Ike sent in the corner and Bjornethun beat Suarez for a 3-1 Seattle advantage.
Seattle outshot HBU, 10-6, in the first half, while the Redhawks took two of the three corner kicks.
In the 54
th minute, Ballew's shot hit the post.
The Huskies had a couple of chances to get closer or tie the match, as they were awarded a corner kick in the 83
rd minute and Uzo's header attempt in the 89
th minute was saved by Haworth.
Seattle outshot HBU, 6-5, in the second half and 16-11 in the match. HBU had a 4-3 advantage in corner kicks in the second half, resulting in both teams having five opportunities in the match.
HBU concludes the road trip at Utah Valley Sunday at 2 pm central.
