HBU Volleyball Defeats Texas Southern 3-0

Senior outside hitter Megan McStravick leads Huskies with 15 kills.

HOUSTON – HBU senior outside hitter Megan McStravick led the Huskies with a match-high of 15 kills and added four blocks in their 3-0 (26-24, 25-21, 25-20) victory over Texas Southern University Tuesday evening.

Sophomore outside hitter Melissa Fuchs recorded nine kills and nine digs for HBU (12-12). Sophomore setter Kayla Armer had a match-high of 36 assists for the Huskies. Senior libero Haley Hoffman recorded a match-high of 16 digs for HBU.

Robyn Shannon led the Tigers with nine kills and 11 digs. Kali Fluke recorded eight kills for TSU. Sarah Wooten recorded 12 assists for the Tigers, while Mallory Ozuna had 11.

In the first set, the Huskies and the Tigers were tied 10-10. TSU then took the lead for most of the set and was ahead as most as six points. However, HBU then stopped the Tigers by scoring eight straight points in order to win the set 26-24.

In the second set, HBU took the lead by as many as three, but TSU managed to come back and tie it up at 13-13. After battling back and forth for the lead, the Huskies tied up the match again at 19-19. It was then that HBU no longer let TSU take another lead and took the set 25-21.

In the third set, the Tigers led by as many as six points, but the Huskies battled back to tie the set 9-9. Once HBU took the lead, TSU managed to make their way back to tie the set again 17-17. The Huskies then took the lead again and ended up winning the set 25-20.

The Huskies and the Tigers each recorded five blocks for the match. HBU outhit TSU by 10 kills. The Huskies outdug the Tigers 44-35.

The Huskies will return to action away on Thursday, Oct. 30 at Sam Houston State University at 6:30 p.m. HBU will then host Lamar University on Saturday, Nov. 1 at 1 p.m. in Sharp Gym.
